VOG Inter-house Cheerleading Competition Rules

General safety rules

1. All stunts MUST be done on mats.

2. All stunts MUST be done with spotters.

3. No accessories should be worn during stunting. I.e. hair bands, butterfly clips, ear studs/rings, necklaces, rings, watches, spectacles.

4. Keep fingernails short to prevent scratching your house members! (And potentially disfiguring them :O ) Girls to wear tights; tights are for sale from the cheer room at $5 each.

Stunts rules

1. Maximum height limit for stunts = 2 men height

2. All stunts of 2 men height must have 2 side bases. E.g. Elevators, Shoulder sit 2-2-1.

Note: Shoulder stands are banned due to high injury risks as observed during workshops.

3. Dismounting from stunts:

I) Possible dismount methods: Retakes, sweeps, assisted dismount from spotters

II) No popping/tossing allowed

4. Possible stunts allowed:

Thigh stand, torch, teddy bear (at elevator level), shoulder sit, elevator, liberty & hitch (at elevator level), shoulder sit 2-2-1

5. All houses must consult and gain permission from VJ Knights should they wish to try out any stunts that are not listed above or taught during the workshop. Feel free to approach us during our trainings. Alternatively, houses can leave a note on our notice board (on our CCA door) indicating that they wish to try out new stunts. Include names and contact numbers and we will contact them.

Final note

1. Please abide by all rules. VJ Knights has the right to disqualify any house from the competition should we catch any house breaching the rules.

2. Do understand that these rules are set due to safety concerns and the many injuries incurred from previous years. We hope to minimise all possible injuries during this year’s competition.

3. Be responsible; should you feel that your house members cannot perform any (allowed) stunts confidently, remove the stunts. Do not compromise safety.

4. Lastly, be creative and play around with the stunts allowed to create walls. Feel free to approach us for help! Wishing all houses all the best for the competition! :)

Signed,

VJ Knights (Cheerleading Club)

Still stereotyping Cheerleaders?

Watch from 42:35 onwards till 51:56!

We're not just flower vases.
We're "not just eyecandies".
We're daring as hell.

A note from our ex-captain,

Hey juniors, don't worry i have not forgotten bout you guys and of course i'm worried about your future. Definitely we need more guys, but i'm sure with such good teachers around you all won't have much troubles. I don't deny that the future path will be a tough one, because it was for me when i was at your "age", but every obstacle is a stepping stone to success, you will grow and learn and bond as a team, with one heart one mind one voice, something that i've learnt. Please remember that in order to go far and quickly, you need to progress as a team. One year may sound long, but soon you'll find yourself in my position typing similar words. Treasure the times that you have now with each other, because i know that once this feeling is gone, you'll never, never get it back. When the bittersweet feeling and withdrawal symptoms kick in, only then will you understand how much you love the team and how priceless the memories are. Sometimes the titles do matter, but as knights, we are friends before cheerleaders, because we are daring, spirited and passionate.

Thank you, Jaime. :) I found that while googling. So jiayou, Knights! One more month. ♥
And Happy Chinese New Year / Valentines' too!!!

Tryouts' results are out!

Congrats to those who made it. :)  Tomorrow afternoon will be the official welcome training for our new Knights! Please remember to work hard and fulfill your role as a Knight! This goes out to ALL Knights eh. And there will be a team lunch after training!!! Team includes the new Knights as well!  \^.^/

For those who missed the tryouts (there is quite a number), we'll be having another one tomorrow at 12 p.m., and the last one next Wednesday at 3 p.m. Refer to previous post for attire and venue!

Re-branding of VJ Knights

After a round of meetings and e-la-borate consideration, the ex-co, along with Mr Josef and Miss Tan, have decided to change the VJ Knights' catchphrase!

Previously known as "Daring, Spirited, Passionate!", it is now "One Team, One Cheer, VJKnights!". This idea was inspired from the word "Family", which was used (by Perle and PY) to describe Knights. So there you go.

Okay that's all for today, see you guys tomorrow at training, and Sam, please remember to stretch your abs! Hahah.

Wanted: Daring, Spirited and Passionate Victorians to be part of the Knights Family!

What do cheerleaders do?
  1. We perform stunts - from basket tosses to building pyramids. Such stunts are unique to cheerleading, hence the sayings "Cheerleaders are angels, we are the only humans who can fly," and "Wimps lift weights, cheerleaders lift people."
  2. We do gymnastics. Cartwheel, back handspring, round off, front walkover - you name it, cheerleading has it.
  3. We dance. Not just your ordinary folk dancing or feminine ballet, we have our own unique hip-hop-inspired high-energy cheer dances, injected with doses of kick-ass toe touches (highly appealing to male cheerleaders for they sure impress)!
  4. We have PTs - physical trainings. From simple crunches and push-ups to handstands and plyometrics, we aim to tone every single part of our bodies (if possible) and become super-fit. :D Yes, if you're still stereotyping cheerleaders, we are NOT weak. Far from it.
  5. We strrreeeetch. Flexibility is important in preventing injury and improving muscle coordination for Cheerleading.
  6. We cheer!!! Obviously, a cheerleader has gotta cheer. And as Victorians, this is one thing we sure do excel in. And if you happen to be a guy, a wondering guy, no, pom-poms do not apply to all cheerleaders!

Hey we sound pretty much like all-rounders eh? ;)

Sea Carnival Performance (Knights&Steppers)

Sea carnival performance was awesome!

2 combined trainings, 3 combined dry runs and 3 combined full runs and we managed to put up a great performance! Really proud of all of us, Knights and Steppers!

Thank you Steppers, for sacrificing time and putting in effort to help us make this performance a success. & thank you Jon, for working the hardest to coordinate both teams and make this happen and work. This performance couldn't have happened without you all. We're really really grateful :)

& to Knights, rlly great job too! The all-Knights group stunts were perfect and Bryan's and Samuel's toe pitch was high! Thank you Gerald, for helping us in this performance too!

Really sorry for an unfortunate knee injury incurred by Jun Cheng during the performance. Jun Cheng, we hope you'll recover soon!
